 BlackBeats.FM: Hallo Lamar aka The Phat Mack. Willkommen zum Interview mit BlackBeats.FM, eines der größten Internetradios Deutschlands im Black Music Bereich. Wie geht es dir?Lamar aka The Phat Mack : Mir geht es gut. Ich kann mich nicht beschweren. Ich bin stets sehr beschäftigt und gebe mein Bestes. BlackBeats.FM: Du bist in Pittsburgh, USA aufgewachsen. Dort spielt die Musikszene eine große Rolle. Erzähl uns bitte wie sehr die Musik dein Leben bestimmt hat und welche Rolle Musik überhaupt in deinem Leben spielt. Lamar aka The Phat Mack : Genau PGH (Kürzel für Pittsburgh) ist eine sehr schlimme Stadt. Umgeben von vielen Mördern und Drogen. Ich bin in einer der schlimmsten Viertel aufgewachsen. Musik hat nicht wirklich eine sehr große Rolle in meinem Leben gespielt. Doch als ich nach Deutschland gekommen bin konnte ich über mein bisheriges Leben in Pittsburgh nachdenken und dies war auch der Zeitpunkt als ich mit dem Songschreiben begonnen habe. Bevor ich nach Deutschland gekommen bin hab ich auch einige Raptexte geschrieben, aber es waren nicht viele, vielleicht vier Stück. Ich war ein Freestyle-Rapper und habe es aus Spaß gemacht. Doch in Deutschland wurde alles anders. BlackBeats.FM: Im Jahr 1995 bist du nach Deutschland gezogen. Warum gerade Deutschland und nicht ein anderes Land? Lamar aka The Phat Mack : Genauer gesagt war es im Juni 1996. Ich habe Deutschland ausgewählt, weil meine Schwester hier bei der Bundeswehr war. Und meine andere Schwester flog nach Deutschland um sie dort zu besuchen. Anschließend verließ meine Schwester die Bundeswehr und meine andere Schwester blieb in Mannheim. Zu der Zeit sind in Pittsburgh viele schlimme Dinge passiert, deshalb rief ich meine Schwester in Deutschland an und fragte sie ob ich für etwa drei Monate bei ihr wohnen könnte. Ich musste einfach weg von Pittsburgh um einen freien Kopf zu bekommen. Mittlerweile sind 14 Jahre vergagen und ich bin immer noch in Deutschland. BlackBeats.FM: Eines der bekanntesten Songs von dir ist "Shine (David´s Song)". Wenn die Menschen dieses Lied heutzutage hören, erinnern sie sich an die gute alte Zeit. Wovon handeln deine Songs? Sind es Geschichten aus deinem Privatleben? Lamar aka The Phat Mack : Ja, meine Songs handeln von meinem Privatleben. Das Leben mit Freunden und im Viertel. Meine Raps entstanden überraschend. Mir kamen plötzlich Texte in den Sinn und ich schrieb drauf los. Ich richtete mich aber jederzeit an meine Konzepte. Ich mochte es Geschichten zu erzählen in meinen Songs und wollte einfach immer das Beste aus den Beats rausholen, indem ich den passenden Text dazu entwarf. Das lustige daran ist, dass zwei meiner besten Songs vor der Veröffentlichung von dem Song "Shine" entstanden sind. Diese waren eigentlich auch für das Album bestimmt, allerdings waren die Beats ähnlich wie die von einem anderen Künstler und dieser gab mir keine Rechte für die Veröffentlichung. Mein Song "Memories" ist der beste Song, den ich bisher aufgenommen habe. Dort geht es um mein Viertel und meine Freunde, die es zerstört haben. Eines Tages, als ich zu Hause war und das Lied gehört habe, musste ich weinen. BlackBeats.FM: Deine Eltern sind sehr christliche Menschen. Wie haben sie dich erzogen? Und standen sie in allen Dingen stets hinter dir? Lamar aka The Phat Mack : Oh ja, meine Eltern standen zu 100 % immer hinter mir. Sie haben mir beigebracht ein guter Mensch zu sein und Menschen so zu behandeln, wie man selber gerne behandelt werden möchte. Ich bin in einem sehr guten Eltern-Haus aufgewachsen, doch wenn ich aus dem Haus ging und nach draußen trat, war die Welt plötzlich ganz anders. Ich liebe meine Eltern von ganzem Herzen , es ist schwer zu beschreiben wieviel sie mir bedeuten. Ich habe schon so oft versucht ein Song für sie zu schreiben. Ich begann immer und immer wieder damit, doch ich fand die Texte drücken einfach zu wenig aus. Der Song muss einfach perfekt sein. Doch bevor ich nicht weiss ich habe den perfekten Song, wird es auch keinen geben. BlackBeats.FM: Du heißt nun "The Phat Mack". Was bedeutet dieser Name und warum hast du ihn ausgewählt? Lamar aka The Phat Mack : Diese Frage stellen mir sehr viele. Ich werde euch die Wahrheit sagen. Ich habe meinen Namen gewechselt, da ich bei X-Cell unter Vertrag stand und dort unter dem Namen "Lamar", also mit meinem richtigen Namen unterzeichnet habe. Sie haben die Rechte an diesem Namen erhalten. Sie sollten mir nichts mehr anhaben können und deswegen habe ich den Namen "The Phat Mack" gewählt. Eines Tages nannte ich mich in einem Freestyle-Battle so und wollte diesen Namen gerne beibehalten. Ich habe mich auch "Iron Tongue"(dt. Eisenzunge) genannt. Dies ist der Name meiner harten Seite, mit der ich versucht habe die Beats explodieren zu lassen. BlackBeats.FM: Was hast du in den letzten Jahren gemacht? Lamar aka The Phat Mack : Ich habe meine Freundin am 31. März 2000 geheiratet. Dieses Jahr haben wir dann unser 10-jähriges Jubiläum. Wir haben drei Söhne. Ich habe jederzeit gearbeitet und Songs für mich geschrieben. Ich spiele American Football für die Mannheim Bandits, doch dieses Jahr hab ich wegen der Studioaufnahmen eine Pause eingelegt. BlackBeats.FM: Jetzt bist du ein Teil von "Legends & Diamonds". Magst du dieses Projekt? Lamar aka The Phat Mack : Ich liebe dieses Projekt. Ich finde es super, dass Tumbo alle zusammengetrommelt hat um dieses sensationelle Album aufzunehmen. Ich denke es kann und wird etwas Besonderes werden. Die Lieder sind super und machen daraus ein tolles Album. Ich danke Tumbo, denn dieses ganze Projekt wäre ohne ihn gar nicht erst zustande gekommen. BlackBeats.FM: Willst du weiterhin Musik machen? Was wird man in Zukunft von dir hören? Lamar aka The Phat Mack : Oh, ich habe noch viel vor. Ich habe für Kristina ein Album geschrieben. Kristina gehörte zur deutschen Girlgroup "Bisou". Das Album ist auf den Markt und vielen verschiedenen Internetseiten zum Download verfügbar. Ich schreibe Lieder für Menschen und versuche sie unter Vertrag zu bringen. Ich arbeite auch an meinem eigenen Album, welche vielleicht sogar eine Doppel-CD wird. Die eine CD wird mehr ein Dance-Album sein, die andere eher ein Street-Album. Penny Ford von der Gruppe "SNAP", Kristina, Nyze (ein deutscher Rapper) und viele mehr sind in meinem Album vertreten. Es wird so einige Überraschungen geben, von denen ich jetzt noch nicht berichten möchte. Ihr werdet staunen. Das Album hat den Namen "The Movement". Welcome to the interview with BlackBeats.FM, one of Germanys biggest webradiostation in the Black Music Genre. How are you? Lamar aka The Phat Mack : I'm good I can't complain ,just trying to keep busy and stay on top of my game. BlackBeats.FM: You were grown up Pittsburgh, USA. The Music playes there a big role. Tell us how the music has dedicated your life and what part music does play for you in your life. Lamar aka The Phat Mack : Well PGH(short for Pittsburgh) is a really bad city alot of murders and drugs and i grew up in one of the worst hoods there. music didnt really play a strong role in my life there growing up but i was a big fan of it. music started play a big role for me when i came to Germany and was able to sit back and think about my life in PGH and thats when i started really getting into writing. i did write a few raps before i got here but not that many i actually only wrote 4 raps in my life before i came to germany i was more of a freestyle rapper just for fun in the hood BlackBeats.FM: In 1995 you?ve moved to germany. Why germany and not another country? Lamar aka The Phat Mack : Actually it was june 19th 1996 Well i picked Germany because i had a sister that was in the army here and then my other sister came here to visit my sister in the army, THEN my sister in the army left and my other sister stayed here in Mannheim germany. and then alot of things started to happen in bad ways back in PGHand i called my sister and said can i come visit you for about 3 months to get away from here to clear my head and its been almost 14 years later lolololol BlackBeats.FM: One well-known song from you is "Shine (David´s Song)". When people hear this song today they will remember the good old time. What does your songs be about? Are it stories from your real life? Lamar aka The Phat Mack : My songs are about my life,friends life,and real life in the hood. i do got my raps where i'm just spitting lyrics but overall i try to have a concept for my stuff i like to tell stories in my raps BUT i do love to just go in and try to kill a beat. the funny thing is 2 of my best songs i recorded back in the SHINE days never made it to the album cause we could get the rights for the sample we used i have a songs called MEMORIES its the best song that i ever recorded and i told about my hood and my boys that got killed it actually made me cry one day when i was sitting home and just listened to it BlackBeats.FM: Your parents are very christian people. How have they educate you? Has your parents stand behin you in every way? Lamar aka The Phat Mack : Oh yes my parents are behind me 100% my parents taught me about being a good man and treating people the way i want to be treated i grew up in a GREAT HOME but its just when i walked out that door it was another life style cause of where i lived but my parents are my heart i love them so much its hard to decribe i have tried to write a song for them so many times but i always start over and over cause i always think its not good enough to express everything and the song has to be PERFECT so until i think i got the PERFECT song i wont do it BlackBeats.FM: Your name is now "The Phat Mack". What does this name means? And why have you chose it? Lamar aka The Phat Mack : LOLOL i get that question alot now i will tell you the TRUTH i changed my name because as you know i was signed to X-Cell and i signed under the name LAMAR which is my REAL NAME but they own the rights to that name and i didnt want them to have anything on me and the reason i chose The Phat Mack is one day i was in a freestyle battle and i called myself the phat mack in it and it just stuck with me i also use IRON TONGUE thats the side of me thats just trying to kill the beats BlackBeats.FM: What have you done in the last years? Lamar aka The Phat Mack : Well i married my girlfriend in 2000 on march 31st is our 10 year anniversary and we got 3 kids all boys. i also been working and just writing songs just for me. i play american football for the Mannheim Bandits this year i actually might not play because i have been in the studio alot and my time is like almost gone BlackBeats.FM: Now you are a part of "Legends & Diamonds". Do you like this project? Lamar aka The Phat Mack : i love the project i think its GREAT that Tumbo got everyone together like this to do this album its actually CRAZY that it actually happened. i think this can and will be something very special. the songs are great and there is a powerful feeling on the album and once again i gotta gives props to TUMBO cause this wouldn't have happened without him he is the brains of this project. BlackBeats.FM: Are you plan to do furthermore music? What can the world await from you in the next years? Lamar aka The Phat Mack : WELL i got alot of things going on first off i wrote a EP for KRISTINA she was in BISOU he EP is out on the market for download on alot of different sites. i'm writing songs for people and trying to get them signed also i'm working on MY album which might be a double CD with one side being more of a DANCE album and the other being more a STREET album. Penny Ford (of SNAP) is on my album. Kristina is on there, Nyze a german rapper is gonna be on there and i got a few suprises that i wont tell right now but people will be like WOW and the album will be called THE MOVEMENT and i'm working with a producer called PHLECK from PMR we are a indie label thats looking for a MAJOR to back us BlackBeats.FM: So that was it.
