 BlackBeats.FM: Hallo Trevor Jackson. Willkommen zum Interview mit BlackBeats.FM, eines der größten Webradiostationen im Black Music Bereich in Deutschland. Geht es dir gut?Travor Jackson: Hey Karo! Als erstes möchte ich sagen, dass es für mich eine Ehre ist ein Interview mit dem größten Internetradio in Deutschland zu führen. Ganz viel Respekt! Bei mir ist alles super, mir geht es gut. Glücklich und gesund und wie geht es euch? BlackBeats.FM: Der Nachname von dir scheint schon eine Ehre zu sein. Wurdest du schon in Verbindung mit Michael Jackson darauf angesprochen? Trevor Jackson: Danke schön für das Kompliment! Aber nein, ich bin keineswegs mit der Jackson Familie verwandt. Aber es wäre eigentlich gut, oder nicht? BlackBeats.FM: Es heißt, du möchtest gerne die Rock-Version von Marvin Gaye sein. Wie wichtig ist dir die Musik und warum gerade Marvin Gaye? Trevor Jackson: Marvin Gaye war schon immer mein Haupt-Idol als Soul-Sänger, noch vor Teddy Pendergrass. Als meine Eltern seine Musik hörten, während ich als Kind aufwuchs, war ich total hypnotisiert von ihm. Es war wie 100 % pure Leidenschaft und Soul. Dies traf mich genauso hart und tief in meiner Seele. Ich habe Marvin Gaye immer bewundert, aber ich liebe auch leidenschaftlich Rock und Hip Hop. Und deswegen wollte ich was total anderes machen, welches mich komplett von anderen männlichen Solo-Künstlern trennt und Europa is das Land, in dem ich diese Nische erschaffen konnte. ICh nenne es "SoulRock". Als Marvin Gaye und Led Zeppelin zusammen Musik rausbrachten, habe ich mich immer gewundert, wie diese Kombination zusammen geklungen hat. BlackBeats.FM: Schon als Jugendlicher hast du dich musikalisch beschäftigt und nahmst Gesangsunterricht. Du hast nie aufgegeben und warst sehr diszipliniert. Sodass du im Jahr 1997 die männliche Hauptrolle beim Musical "Miss Saigon" in Deutschland spielen durftest. Wie wichtig war dieser erste Schritt und welche Erfahrungen hast du damit gesammelt? Trevor Jackson: Ja, in Miss Saigon war ich "John" und diese Erfahrung war für mich meine Einführung in Europa/Deutschland. Um ehrlich zu sein, es hat echt meine Welt gerockt! Ein neues Land, ein neuer Ort, neue Perspektiven. Dies war das erste Mal, wo ich mich verliebt habe. Diese Chance gehabt zu haben, die Show in Deutschland zu machen und auch hier zu wohnen öffnete mir die Seele und den Geist in vielen Hinsichten. Als ich zurück nach Amerika ging, war das Feeling total anders - Es war nicht das selbe. Der Eindruck, der hinterlassen wurde, war so stark, dass ich erkannte ein neues zu Hause gefunden zu haben. I hatte es im Gefühl, dass ich meine Musikkarriere in Deutschland wirklich verwirklichen kann. Das aufwertende Niveau war so hoch, aber auch der Lebensstandard. Dies alles fühlte sich einfach perfekt für mich an. Aus diesem Grund kehrte ich wieder zurück nach Stuttgart, welches damals die einzige Stadt in Deutschland war, die ich kannte. BlackBeats.FM: Anschließend bist du wieder zurück in die USA und bist dort als Solo-Künstler durchgestartet. Dass das Musikbusiness jedoch sehr hart ist, konntest auch du feststellen. In wiefern? Trevor Jackson: Als ich zurück nach Amerika ging, hat sich plötzlich alles auf den Kopf gestellt. Es war ein Ausfall nach dem anderen. Rückschläge, Todesfälle und Verluste, aber mittlerweile schaue ich zurück und weiss, dass es gut für mich war, diese Erfahrungen zu sammeln. Ich bin so viele Situationen im Leben durchgegangen. Das hat dazu geführt, dass ich tief in mich hineinschauen durfte und mich selber finden konnte. Das Leben kann dir so richtig in den Arsch treten. Bei mir hat es dazugeführt, dass aus mir ein erwachsener Mann wurde und ich konnte herausfinden wer ich wirklich bin und was ich wirklich kann. Das Ergebnis diesen langen harten Kampfes - Ich wurde spirtuell. BlackBeats.FM:Nachdem 2004 dein Vater verstarb hast du den Song "Don´t give up" aufgenommen, in dem du deine Gefühle verarbeitet hast. Was genau wolltest du mit diesem Song der Menschheit mitteilen? Trevor Jackson: Der Tod meines Vaters hatte eine positive Macht auf mich. Der Funke ist übergesprungen und hat das Feuer in mir erwacht. Als dies passiert war, wusste ich, dass ich zurück nach Deutschland kommen werde und meine Karriere verwirklichen werde. Und vor allem ein besseres Leben zu führen. Ich war so inspiriert, dass ich "Don't Give Up" geschrieben habe und es mit den Leuten teilen wollte. Ich hoffe, ich konnte sie inspireren, denn Inspirationen sind sehr wichtig im Leben. Auch der Tod kann dich inspirieren. Es hat nicht immer nur eine schlechte Wirkung. Mittlerweile schaue ich dem Tod auch anders entgegen und habe keine Angst davor. BlackBeats.FM: Selbst in der Filmindustrie hast du deine Spuren hinterlassen. Zum Kinofilm "Die Welle" hast du den Titelsong gesungen. Welcher Song war das? Trevor Jackson: Ich hatte die Ehre ein Part von "Die Welle" zu sein. Ich wusste nicht, dass es der Film des Jahes wird! Der Soundtrack-Produzent, den ich bei "Miss Saigon" kennengelernt hatte, hat mich kontaktiert und mich gefragt, ob er alte Aufnahmen von mir nutzen darf. Und das Ergenbnis von dem, was wir aufgenommen hatten, war der neue Song "Move It!" für den Soundtrack. EMI & Constantin Films liebten es und dann passierte alles. BlackBeats.FM: Es folgten Einladungen vom Fürst Albert von Monaco, dein Debüt-Album "With my very last Breath", ein Auftritt mit US-Show-Glee-Star Cheyene Jackson und vieles mehr. Trevor Jackson war somit für viele Menschen ein Begriff. Freut es dich sehr, dass du so viele Möglichkeiten hattest um musikalischen Erfolg zu ergattern? Trevor Jackson: Wow, ja, es entstand ein freischaffender Künstler. Ich war ein absoluter Workaholic in den letzte 6-7 Jahren. Den Ruf, den ich jetzt habe, habe ich nur aufgrund meiner konsequenten und harten Arbeit erhalten. Das Team, mit dem ich jetzt zusammen arbeite ich wirklich unglaublich und ich bin sehr zufrieden mit unserer Arbeit. Es sind sehr nette und ehrliche Menschen. Wir sind fokussiert und wollen nur das Beste. Trevor Jackson: Bei der Musik-TV-Show "The Winner Is", moderiert von Linda de Mol, hast du es ziemlich weit gebracht. Hättest du jemals damit gerechnet? Trevor Jackson: Wow, "The Winner Is" war toll. Nein, Bärbel und ich haben nie damit gerechnet, dass wir so weit kommen. Wir dachten, dass wir lediglich zwei Performances abliefern werden und dann gehen werden. Aber dann auch noch dass Finale zu erreichen und den 3. Platz zu machen, das war wie eine Millionen Euro für mich. Ich habe noch nie irgendertwas gewonnen in meinem Leben, es war eine unglaubliche Erfahrung für mich. Linda De Mol und das Team waren so nett und professionell. Es machte Spaß bei dieser Show mitzuwirken. Als meinen ersten Auftritt im deutschen Fernsehen konnte es keine bessere Einführung geben. BlackBeats.FM: Woran arbeitest du momentan? Wird man dieses Jahr noch etwas von dir hören? Trevor Jackson: Momentan arbeite ich an neuer Musik und Musikvideos. Es werden viele Shows im Herbst anstehen. Ich mache nur das weiter, was ich immer getan habe. Es gibt einige großartige Dinge, über die ich aber noch nicht sprechen kann. Aber wenn es soweit ist, wird es auf jeden Fall verkündet. BlackBeats.FM: Gibt es ein Motto, nach dem du lebst? Wenn ja, wie lautet es? Trevor Jackson: Mein Motto ist, wobei ich einige habe, aber das Hauptmotto ist: "Kein Bedauern!" oder "Sei stets inspiriert!". Es gibt ein Zitat von DJ Grand Master Flash: "Angst kann ich davon abhalten Größe zu erlangen!" Ich lebe wirklich nach diesen Mottos, weil sie einfach wahr sind. Ich bin ein Mensch, wie jeder andere auch. Ich bin nichts besonderes auf diese Art und Weise. Es lässt sich gut damit arbeiten, da man sich mit ihnen identifizieren kann. Wenn ich irgendwann einmal ein alter Mann bin, möchte ich nicht zurückschauen und irgendetwas bedauern. Etwas zu bedauern ist wie "geistiger Krebs", der dich in einer negativen Art beeinflusst. Welcome to the interview with BlackBeats.FM, one of the biggest webradiostations in the Black Music Genre in Germany. How are you? Trevor Jackson: Hey, Karo! I 1st want to say it's an honor to have you interview me on the biggest internet radio station in Germany! Much respect! I'm fine, doing great. Happy and healthy and how are you? BlackBeats.FM: The last name of you already seem to be an honor. Have you ever been associated with Michael Jackson? Trevor Jackson:Thanks for the compliment! But no, I'm not related to the Jackson family at all. Although it would be nice, wouldn't it? BlackBeats.FM: It means you want to be like the rock version of Marvin Gaye. How important is the music of Marvin Gaye for you and why? Trevor Jackson: Marvin Gaye has been and always will by my main idol as soul singer, next to Teddy Pendergrass. When my parents played his records when I was growing up as a kid, I was completing mesmerized by him. It was just 100% pure passion and soul. And it just hit me so hard and so good in my soul. I've always idolized Marvin Gaye but also love rock and hiphop with a passion. And so, I want to do something completely different that would seperate me from all the other solo male singers and Europe is where I know I can create this "niche" that I call SoulRock. If Marvin Gaye and Led Zeppelin ever recorded together, I wondered what that combination together would sound like. BlackBeats.FM: Even as a teenager you've engaged musically and took voice lessons. You've never given up and were very disciplined. So you are in 1997, the male lead role in the Musical "Miss Saigon" in Germany. How important was this first step and what experience have you collected by that? Trevor Jackson: Yes, in Miss Saigon I was a "John" cover and that experience was my introduction to Europe/Germany. To be honest, it really rocked my world! A new country, a new place, a new outlook, the 1st time I ever fell in love. Having the chance to do that show and live in Germany opened up my mind and soul in so many ways. When I went back to America it just didn't feel the same to me. The impression left on me was so powerful that I realized that I had found a New home. I had gotten the feeling that I can really make my career "happen" in Germany. The appreciation level was so high as well as the standard of living. Everything just felt perfect for me so I moved back to Stuttgart which was the only city in Germany that I ever knew about. BlackBeats.FM: Then you've went back in the U.S. and started there are as a solo artist. Fact is that the music business is very hard. Could you also notice that? In what sense? Trevor Jackson: When I went back to America everything just turned upside down for me. It was failure after failure, setbacks, death and losses but now that I look back I can see that that was good for me to experience. I went through so much "Life" stuff that made me dig really deep down inside myself to find "me". Life can really kick your ass so hard and as a result it made me grow up as a man and find out what I'm really made of. I became spiritual as a result of that long hard struggle. BlackBeats.FM After your father died in 2004 you have released the song "Do not give up" in which you have added your feelings. What exactly you wanted to tell with this song of the humanity? Trevor Jackson: My father's death had such a power positive impact on me that it was the spark that ignited the fire that I have inside me now. When that happened, I knew that I could come back to Germany and make my career happen but more importantly have a much better life. I was so inspired that I wrote "Don't Give Up" and I want to share it with people. Hopefully it can inpsire them because inspiration so important. Death can inspire you. It doesn't always have a bad effect and so now I look at death totally differently, I have no fear. BlackBeats.FM: Even in the film industry, you've left your mark. to Movie "Die Welle" you have sung the title song. What song was that? Trevor Jackson: I had the honor to be a part of the "Die Welle" movie score and soundtrack. I had no idea it would be the movie of the year! The soundtrack producer contacted me, who I had met back in Miss Saigon days and asked if he could use an old recording we had done together for the film score. And as a result of that we recorded a New song "Move It!" for the soundtrack. EMI & Constantin Films loved it and then everything happened! BlackBeats.FM: Subsequent invitations from Prince Albert of Monaco, your debut album "With my very last breath" , performance with U.S. show Glee Star Cheyene Jackson and many more. Trevor Jackson was so a term for the people. Are you glad that you had so many opportunities for musical success? Trevor Jackson: Wow, ja, as an independent artist I've been a total workaholic for the last 6-7 years. As a result of this consistent work and drive I've built such a reputation. The team that I have now is really incredible and I'm very happy with the work we are doing! We're very nice and honest people. We're focused and we just want the best. BlackBeats.FM: At the music TV show "The Winner Is," hosted by Linda de Mol, have you taken it pretty far. Have you ever expect that? BlackBeats.FM: Wow, with the "Winner Is"- Nein, I Bärbel and I never expected to get so far. We really thought we would do about 2 performance's and then we're gone but to go the finals and come in 3rd place, that a million euro to me! I never won anything in my life. It was an incredible experience! Linda de Mol and the entire Schwarzkopf team were so nice and professional. They made it alot of fun to be in the show. For my 1st appearance on German national television, I couldn't of asked for a better introduction. BlackBeats.FM: What are you working on? Can we hear something from you this year? Trevor Jackson: I'm currently working on New music and music video's. I have alot of show's coming in the Fall and just continuing what I've always been doing. I have some great things on the table that I can't talk about as of yet but when I'm ready, I'll let everyone know. BlackBeats.FM: Is there a motto you live by? If so, how is it? Trevor Jackson: My motto but I have a few but the main one is: "NO REGRETS!". I also have: STAY INSPIRED, and a quote from DJ Grand Master Flash of Grand Master Flash & The Furious Five "FEAR CAN KEEP YOU FROM ACHIEVING GREATNESS". I really do live by these motto's and quotes because they are true. I'm human like everyone else. I'm not special in that way. They work very well for me because I can relate so much to them. When I'm an old man one day, I don't want to look back on my life and career and have regrets. Having regrets is the "mental cancer" that will do you in a negative way.
