 BlackBeats.FM: Hallo Million Stylez! Willkommen zum Interview mit BlackBeats.FM, eines der größten Webradiostationen im BlackMusic-Bereich Deutschlands. Wie geht es dir? Million Stylez: Mir geht es gut. Ich bin dankbar dafür zu leben und solange wir noch alle am Leben sind, ist alles möglich. BlackBeats.FM: Du kommst aus Schweden, was man allerdings wenn man sich deine Musik anhört, gar nicht denken würde. Denn du machst jamaikanische Musik. Wie entstand das Interesse an dieser Art von Musik? Million Stylez: Ich habe mich in Reggae verliebt, schon als ich es das erste Mal gehört habe und später habe ich es einfach selbst versucht. BlackBeats.FM: Auch dein Name, der Kenshin Iryo lautet ist so gar nicht typisch schwedisch. Welche Kultur verbirgt sich denn nun dahinter? Million Stylez: Mein Vater gab mir den Namen Kenshin, da er zu der Zeit als er aufwuchs von einem großen Samurai Kaiser, der Japan vor etwa 500 Jahren regierte, inspiriert wurde. Er sagte, wenn ich eines Tages einen Sohn bekomme, werde ich ihn Kenshin nennen. BlackBeats.FM: Was verbindet dich so stark mit dem Land Schweden? Million Stylez: Ich fühle mich mit dem Land Schweden nicht kulturell verbunden, weder körperlich, noch geistig. Ich wurde nur hier geboren und lediglich mein Pass sagt aus, dass ich schwedisch bin. Meine Eltern stammen aus Japan und Frankreich und sind ausgewandert. Ich gehöre der zweiten Generation an und meine Kinder würden die dritte Generation der Einwanderer werden. Ich wurde auch nie wie ein Schwede in meinem "eigenen" Land behandelt. Also wenn Schweden nicht stolz auf mich ist, warum sollte ich dann auf Schweden stolz sein? Dieses Land ist auch nicht wirklich sehr kulturell. Vielleicht ist dies der Grund, warum ich mich der jamaikanische Kultur so verbunden fühle. BlackBeats.FM: Deine Musikkarriere startete eigentlich erst so richtig, als du im Jahr 2005 beim Red Stripe Big Break, einem Talent-Wettbewerb in Jamaika unter 1200 Teilnehmern den vierten Platz erreicht hattest. Hättest du jemals damit gerechnet so weit zu kommen? Million Stylez: Es begann eigentlich alles 2006, als "Miss Fatty" veröffentlicht wurde. Ich nahm an diesem Wettbewerb teil, um Erfahrungen zu sammeln. Ich wollte nicht dorthin, um zu gewinnen, weil ich weit davon entfernt war. BlackBeats.FM: Deine Musik verbreitete sich anschließend stark in Skandinavien und Jamaika. Der Song „Miss Fatty“ galt auch hier in Deutschland als ein Dancehall-Burner und lief in den Clubs auf und ab. Es war einer deiner ersten Songs, mit dem du den Durchbruch geschafft hast und sicherlich hat er eine große Bedeutung für dich oder? Million Stylez: Es war zuerst Deutschland, die 2006 von dem Song so sehr begeistert waren. Ich startete meine Tour in Deutschland und anschließend in einigen Teilen von Europa. Bis 2007 hatte Schweden keinerlei Interesse an meiner Musik gezeigt, bis dann schließlich ein Major-Label mein Debüt-Album “From a far“ veröffentlichte. Daran sieht man auch, dass sie mich erst akzeptiert hatten, nachdem der Rest der Welt es getan hat. Ich danke Gott, dass es so ein Hit wurde und ich tagtäglich neue Menschen kennengelernt hatte. Durch diesen Song tourte ich durch die ganze Welt. BlackBeats.FM: Mit diversen Künstlern, wie Sean Paul, Mr. Vegas, Wayne Wonder, Nina Sky und viele mehr hast du bereits zusammengearbeitet. Was war für dich persönlich der Knaller unter dem Ganzen? Million Stylez: Es ist mir eigentlich egal mit wem ich zusammenarbeite, solange die ihr Herz am richtigen Fleck haben und eine positive Message überbringen. BlackBeats.FM: Um auf deinen Namen „Million Stylez“ zurückzukommen. Welche Bedeutung hat er und wie ist er entstanden? Million Stylez: Es entstand, als ich die High School verließ und mich Vollzeit mit der Musik beschäftigen wollte. Es war für mich der perfekte Name, da ich mich mit HipHop, Reggae, Dancehall, R&B, Soul und Garage beschäftigt hatte. Ich war auch einige Zeit DJ. BlackBeats.FM: Die letzten Jahre scheint es ziemlich ruhig um dich zu sein. Hast du dich etwas zurückgezogen oder arbeitest du im Hintergrund an weiteren Songs? Million Stylez: Das ist wirklich sehr lustig, dass ihr das erwähnt. Weil gerade in den letzten Jahren war es meine kreativste und lebendigste Zeit. Ich habe nach “Miss Fatty“ gefühlte hundert Songs herausgebracht. Die, die es wissen, sind dann auch meine „wahren“ Fans. Nichts für ungut aber haha. BlackBeats.FM:Musikalisch bewegst du dich im Dancehall- und Reggae-Bereich. Gibt es Musik-Genres die du persönlich auch gerne bevorzugst. Was genau gefällt dir an diesen Genres? Million Stylez: Ich mag eigentlich jede Art von Musik, die mich zum Tanzen bringt. Ich mag mich nicht mit einem bestimmten Genre verpflichten. Aber Reggae ist definitiv mein Lieblings-Genre. Es ist die Botschaft von der Liebe und von Gott. Ich liebe auch Soul-Musik. Die Musik muss halt „echt“ sein. BlackBeats.FM: Warst du schon einmal in Deutschland gewesen? Welche Dinge sind für dich typisch „deutsch“? Million Stylez: Ich habe hunderte Shows in Deutschland abgeliefert. Also ja, ich war schon mal da, haha. Für mich gibt es sowohl positive, aber auch negative Dinge über die Deutschen zu sagen. Die guten Dinge sind, dass die Deutschen wirklich sehr organisiert und geschäftsbezogen sind. Sie achten sehr darauf, dass alles ordnungsgemäß abläuft. Ich vergleiche es zum Beispiel mit meinen Shows, dort wurde ich immer sehr fair und nett behandelt. Sie sind auch sehr höflich und nicht beleidigend. Sie mögen es so lange zu arbeiten, bis sie sie nicht mehr dazu fähig sind. Die Deutschen sollten sich mehr Zeit zum Entspannen nehmen und jeden Moment genießen. Aufhören ständig an die Arbeit oder Geld zu denken. Sie sollten meditieren, sich Gedanken über das Leben an sich machen und spirituell werden. Das ist meine Meinung und ich wünsche mir , dass es die ganze Welt so machen würde. Welcome to the interview with BlackBeats.FM, one of the largest web radio stations in the Black Music area of Germany. How are you? Million Stylez: Im great give thanks to Jah because as long as you got life and Jah, everything is possible. BlackBeats.FM: You're from Sweden. But however when people listen to your music they would not associate you with this country . Because you make Jamaican music. How did you get interested in this kind of music? Million Stylez: I think just like anyone else in the world, I just fell in love with reggae since the first time I heard it and later on try to do some myself. BlackBeats.FM: Also your name Iryo Kenshin is so not typical Swedish. Which culture is hidden behind it? Million Stylez: Well my father gave me the name Kenshin because as he was growing up he really was inspired by a great samurai emperor who ruled japan about 500 years ago. He said that the day I will have a son I will name him Kenshin. BlackBeats.FM: What connects you so strongly with the country Sweden? Million Stylez: I actually don´t connect to sweden culturally, physically or spiritually. I was just born here and it says I´m swedish in my passport. My parents immagrated from japan and france so that makes me a second generation immigrant and my children would be called third generation immigrants. I have also never been treated like a swede in my "own" country so you see, if sweden can´t be proud of me how can I be proud of sweden? This country is also very poor in culture so maybe that´s why I klinged on Jamaican culture as I was growing up with a couple of them, who knows? BlackBeats.FM:Your music career started actually in 2005 at the Red Stripe Big Break, a talent competition in Jamaica. Among 1200 participants you have reached the fourth place. Did you ever expect to get so far? Million Stylez: Well it actually started 2006 as "miss fatty" hit the market. I just participated in that contest to get some exposure and most important, experience. I didn´t go there to win because I was far from ready to follow up work the winner had to do like performing at sumfest etc (jamaicas biggest music event). BlackBeats.FM:Your music then spread in Scandinavia and Jamaica. The song "Miss Fatty" was also here in Germany a dancehall burner. It was one of your first songs, with which you made the breakthrough and has certainly a great significance for you, right? Million Stylez: I was actually germany that picked it up early 2006 and I start touring allover germany and later on the rest of europe the same year. It wasn´t until 2007 that sweden got interested and a major label released my debut album "From a far". So you see again that they didn´t accept me until the rest of the world did. I give thanks to god that it became such a hugh hit and is still discovered my new people everyday. It´s because of that song I´ve been touring the whole world, independently as well. BlackBeats.FM: You have already worked together with a variety of artists such as Sean Paul, Mr. Vegas, Wayne Wonder, Nina Sky and many more. What was for you personally a big hit among the whole? Million Stylez: I don´t really care who I work with as long as their heart is in the right place and that their message is positive and uplifting. BlackBeats.FM: To get back to your name "Million Stylez". What importance has it and how it was created? Million Stylez: I came up with it when I decided to drop out of highschool and wanted to do this fulltime. I thought is was the perfect name for me because I was doing hiphop, reggae, dancehall, R&B, soul, garage u name it. I was also DJ´ing alot at the time. BlackBeats.FM: The last few years it seems to be pretty quiet around you. Have you pulled back in the background or have you worked on other songs? Million Stylez: Now this is very funny that you mentioned that because the last few years has actually been my busiest and most creative time so far. I have probably put out a hundred songs since miss fatty but the ones who know that are my "true" fans. No hard feelings though haha. BlackBeats.FM: Musical you are moving in the dancehall and reggae area. Are there genres of music that you personally like to prefer. What do you like at this genre? Million Stylez: I like all kind of music that moves me and like I always say, I don´t like putting bounderies on myself musically. But reggae is defenetly my favorite genre due to the message of love and god. I love soul music as well. Real music. BlackBeats.FM:Have you ever been in Germany? What things do you think are typical "German"? Million Stylez: Well I have dun hundreds of shows in germany so yes I have been there haha. I can tell you what I think are the good things and bad things. The good things are that germans are really oranized and business minded so you can almost always make sure that everything will be handled properly at a show for example. Germans are also very polite and don´t wouldn´t want to offend you in anyway. They also like to work work work until they can´t work no more haha. Now one think I think germans should more is to relax and enjoy the moment more. Stop thinking about work/money so much and start meditate on life and become more spiritual. These are just my opinions and I would wish that for the whole world in general. BlackBeats.FM:We thank you very much for the really nice and interesting interview.
